By following these simple care guidelines, you will maintain perfect hygiene while preserving the aesthetic qualities that make your carpet such an essential element of your interior — and all without much effort.
1. Protect your carpet from the start: A good entrance mat can significantly reduce dirt and moisture entering your home. This simple step will greatly extend the lifespan of your carpet.
2. Use protective pads under furniture: If placing heavy furniture on your carpet, use protective pads under the legs. This helps distribute the pressure more evenly and prevents long-term marks.
3. Rotate your rug regularly: Turning your rug from time to time ensures more even wear and helps maintain its appearance over the years.
4. Vacuum regularly: Regular vacuuming is essential for maintaining any type of carpet. While it requires consistency, it remains the most effective and economical way to preserve a clean and fresh appearance.
Use a vacuum cleaner with a smooth suction head for flatwoven and cut-pile carpets. For coir, sisal, or more structured qualities, a vacuum with a rotating brush can be more effective.
For wool carpets, I recommend using the carpet for a short period before vacuuming for the first time. Some lint and loose fibers are natural at the beginning. After one or two months, you can vacuum regularly — always with a smooth head (no rotating brush) to preserve the yarn’s twist and prevent surface fuzzing.
